Pandora – The World of Avatar. Disney’s latest double-edged sword. You WANT to visit – but you don’t want to spend your entire trip waiting in lines. That said, if you are all ears in, check out our tips for making the most of your time on Pandora.
To accommodate the opening rush, Disney has made several adjustments to the park’s operating hours:
For a limited time through July 4, 2017 the park will be open from 8:00AM to 11:00PM. If you are not staying at a Disney property where you can take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours, arriving early to the park. At rope drop, make a beeline for Pandora to experience the rides with the least amount of wait time. Just follow the crowds, they’ll show you the way.
For those guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort, Pandora is open from 11:00 PM to 1:00AM just for you! In addition to any “regular” Extra Magic Hours, you can enjoy these “Extra” Extra Magic Hours now through July 4, 2017!
If you can, plan ahead with Disney’s FastPass+ system. If you aren’t familiar with the process, FP+ allows you to “reserve” an hour window that you’ll return to wait in line. FP+ lines are much quicker and you’ll bypass the dreadfully long stand-by line. Thanks to the newly imposed tier system, you can only reserve one Pandora ride at a time, so you’ll need to choose between Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey. We recommend picking Flight of Passage as it is already proven to be the longer wait time and take your chances in the standby line for Na’vi River Journey.
Fitting in the Whole Experience
It is possible to experience both rides before the park fills up for the day. Schedule a FP+ for about two hours after the park opens (either ride is fine). Arrive at Animal Kingdom well before rope drop and be prepared to shuffle like cattle over to Pandora. Head immediately to the ride you did NOT FP+ and jump in the standby line. You will likely still have a bit of a wait but it won’t be the 3-5 hours that you’ll find later in the day. Depending on what time your FP+ window opens for the other ride, you can explore Pandora (and the gift shop) while you wait. If you are enjoying other parts of the park while waiting for a Pandora FP+, give yourself ample time to negotiate the crowds. The last thing you want to do is lose your window and have to join the stand-by line.
Pre Order Your Meals
The new pre-order feature at Satu’li Canteen – the main dining establishment in Pandora – is another time saver. Using the MyDisneyExperience app on your smartphone, you are able to preorder and pre-pay for your meal. When you arrive at the restaurant, open up your app and click the button that announces your arrival. You’ll receive a notification on your phone when your order is ready. Hop into the mobile pick-up line and grab your food.
